How to Move your Media Files to an External Drive

The most common solution for hard drive filling up is to get another or second hard drive but for non-tech guys an external hard drive is the best solution. Most of the file types that filling up our Hard drive is the Media Files, so once it was started to overflow all we need to to is to move it to second or external hard drive and if you are wondering how can you do that, here is a simple guide how to do this.

How-To:

  1. Close any music playing software
  2. In XP, open “My Documents” and drag/drop the “My Music” folder to the external drive. Windows will figure out that you’re moving a special folder and will change its own settings accordingly
  3. In Vista, click start-right click “Music”, and then select “Properties. Click the Location Tab. Change the path to a folder on your new Hard Drive and click OK. If Windows ask whether you want to create a new folder, click YES. When Windows inquiries whether not to move all of the files, click YES again. If your using  Windows Media Player, open it after the Move and press <F3>. Select the new Music folder and let the application search the files.

That’s it!
